How it works
Eid al-Adha, the festival of sacrifice, falls on 10 Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Hijri year, during the Hajj season. The day before it, 9 Dhu al-Hijjah, is the Day of Arafah, when pilgrims stand at Mount Arafat and many Muslims around the world fast. The countdown finds the next 10 Dhu al-Hijjah on the Umm al-Qura calendar and counts down to it on your device.
Expected Eid al-Adha dates
| Hijri year | Expected Gregorian date |
|---|---|
| 1447 AH | Wednesday 27 May 2026 |
| 1448 AH | Sunday 16 May 2027 |
| 1449 AH | Friday 5 May 2028 |
| 1450 AH | Tuesday 24 April 2029 |
| 1451 AH | Saturday 13 April 2030 |
The Day of Arafah is always the day before the date in this table.
Example. Eid al-Adha 1447 fell on Wednesday 27 May 2026, with Arafah on Tuesday 26 May. From 5 November 2026, the next Eid al-Adha (1448) is expected on Sunday 16 May 2027 — 192 days away — and Arafah on Saturday 15 May 2027.
How the date is confirmed
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court announces the start of Dhu al-Hijjah after the crescent is sighted, and that sets the Day of Arafah for the Hajj. Most countries follow the same days for Eid al-Adha, but a few rely on their own sighting. If the sighting differs from the calculation, the announced date can move by one day.
The days around Eid
- The first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah are considered especially virtuous, ending with Arafah and Eid.
- Days of Tashreeq — 11, 12 and 13 Dhu al-Hijjah follow Eid; the sacrifice (udhiyah) may be offered from after the Eid prayer until the end of 13 Dhu al-Hijjah according to many scholars.
