How it works

This page reads the date from your own device, so it always shows your today — even just after midnight in your time zone. The Gregorian date comes straight from the clock. The Hijri date is converted with the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official civil calendar of Saudi Arabia, built into every modern browser through the Unicode CLDR calendar data.

Why the Hijri date can differ by one day

Umm al-Qura fixes the start of each month in advance from astronomical calculation. Many countries, including Egypt and most of North Africa, start religious months only after the crescent moon is sighted, and Saudi Arabia also announces Ramadan and the Eids by sighting. Sighting can confirm a month one day before or after the calculated date, so for fasting, Eid and other religious occasions always follow the announcement of your official authority.

Example. On Thursday 5 November 2026 the Umm al-Qura date is 25 Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH. It is day 309 of 2026, in ISO week 45, with 56 days left in the year.

What else is shown

  • Numeric formats — dd/mm/yyyy for both calendars, ready to copy into forms.
  • Day of the year — 1 to 365 (366 in leap years such as 2028).
  • ISO week number — weeks start on Monday and week 1 is the week with the year’s first Thursday, the standard used in Europe and many companies.
  • Days left in the year — useful for deadlines and planning.

The Hijri months

Muharram, Safar, Rabi al-Awwal, Rabi al-Thani, Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Akhirah, Rajab, Shaban, Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhu al-Qadah and Dhu al-Hijjah. Each has 29 or 30 days, so the Hijri year (354 or 355 days) moves about 11 days earlier against the Gregorian year every year.

To convert any other date, use the Hijri ↔ Gregorian converter. To find a date a number of days ahead, use days from today, and to see how long is left until the fast, open the Ramadan countdown.
