How it works
A countdown subtracts the current moment from the target moment. The calculator reads your device’s clock, so the target is in your own time zone, and it updates every second. If the date has already passed, it counts up instead and tells you how long ago it was.
time left = target date and time − now days = ⌊ms ÷ 86,400,000⌋ · hours = ⌊ms ÷ 3,600,000⌋ mod 24 · minutes and seconds likewiseWorked example. On Thursday 5 November 2026 at 18:00, a wedding on Friday 1 January 2027 at 20:00 is 57 days and 2 hours away: 25 days left in November + 31 in December + 1 day in January = 57 calendar days, plus the 2-hour difference in time. That is 8 weeks and 1 day, or 1,370 hours.
Calendar days vs full days
“How many days until” can mean two things. The live counter shows full 24-hour days left; a calendar count, which is what people usually say aloud, counts midnights. At 18:00 the evening before a midnight deadline, there is 1 calendar day but 0 full days and 6 hours. The result shows both the full days and the remaining h:m:s, so you can read it either way.
Ideas for countdowns
- Weddings, graduations, exams and job start dates.
- Travel departures, visa expiry and contract end dates.
- Product launches and project deadlines — add the time to count to the minute.
For religious occasions, dedicated pages use the Umm al-Qura calendar: Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. To find the date a number of days ahead, use days from today.
